The educator who somehow knows exactly where a favourite toy has disappeared to. The familiar face waiting at the door after a difficult goodbye. The person who turns a cardboard box into a rocket ship, a puddle into an investigation and a simple question into a whole morning of discovery.
But behind those moments is something much more than magic.
There is skill, thought, preparation, patience and an incredible amount of care.
On Early Childhood Educators’ Day, Wednesday 2 September, we’re celebrating the educators across Sparrow Early Learning who make those moments possible every day.
Early childhood educators play an important role during some of the most formative years of a child’s life.
They observe. They listen. They plan experiences around children’s interests. They support emerging friendships, language, independence and confidence. They offer reassurance when big emotions arrive and encouragement when a child is ready to try something new.
Importantly, they also get to know the individual child behind all of that learning.
At Sparrow, we believe those relationships matter.
It’s why our educators take the time to learn the little things: what makes a child laugh, how they like to be comforted, what they’re curious about right now and when they might need a little extra support.
The people behind the magic
For families, starting early learning can bring plenty of emotions too.
You’re trusting someone else with one of the most important people in your world.
Over time, the educators who once felt new can become the people you swap stories with at pick-up, celebrate milestones with and turn to when you have a question about your child.
That relationship between children, families and educators is a big part of what makes an early learning community feel like it belongs to you.
And it’s something we’re incredibly proud of at Sparrow.
So today, we want to say thank you to every Sparrow educator.
For the activities you prepare before children arrive.
For the hundreds of questions you answer.
For the sunscreen, lost hats, stories, songs and cuddles.
For noticing the small milestones that can actually be very big milestones.
For supporting families.
And, most importantly, for showing children every day that they are known, valued and capable.
To children, some of it might feel like magic… but we know it’s you.
