About Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs

At Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs, we embrace the image of the child as a creative, confident and active learner. Our qualified, Early Childhood Educators use the Early Years Framework as a guide which is intended to support curriculum decision making to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school. We aim to provide programs that are fun, play based, educational, inclusive and reflective.

The program is based on the developmental needs, interests and experiences of all the children in our care.

Our recreational program promotes a natural environment which provides opportunities to teach children about caring for the world in which we live including:

  • Gardens where children can dig and grow their own plants
  • Sandpits for sensory, symbolic and physical play
  • Plants to encourage birds, butterflies and other insects
  • Natural play spaces outdoors to encourage risk taking, fine motor development and imaginative play Water play areas for sensory play
  • Trees which provide shade

Curriculum Overview

In line with the manner in which children learn in their early years, we provide a play-based curriculum that allows for sensory exploration in the belief that “there is nothing in the mind that was not first in the senses” (John Locke).

Increasing evidence shows that early childhood is the ‘window of opportunity’ for children to establish the beginnings of skills that will enable them to reach their full potential. It is our job, therefore, to create a safe, secure and supportive environment where through observation, interaction and careful planning, we can provide appropriate, stimulating and challenging developmental activity to meet the needs of every child in our care.

Our aim is not only to provide a sense of wellbeing and belonging for your children but for your families as well and create a community that is welcoming and inclusive where three voices are heard – not only the voice of the teacher but also the voice of the child and the voice of the family.  You are your child’s first teacher and we trust we will work alongside each other to continue what you have already begun – not only preparing your child for school but also preparing your child for life.

Service Manager at Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs

“Hello, my name is Bianca and I’m the service manager here at Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs. I believe that all children are different and unique in their own way. As educators, we respect each child as the individual that they are. ” Read more.

I am passionate about creating a place where children feel valued and respected, and I promote an independent learning environment and a happy and fun place for the children and their families to be a part of. My focus is to support my team in providing amazing, engaging play spaces, along with high quality education, and most importantly a place children want to come back to, their home away from home.

Drawing inspiration from pedagogical practices such as Reggio Emilia, I believe children learn best in an environment that nurtures their curiosity, exploration and when Educators are on hand to facilitate their learning. Working alongside children to create stimulating learning environments that foster the children’s interests and make learning through play visible is a vital part of our role as early years Educators.

The centre environments we have created are of the highest qualities as children deserve the best while exploring their environment. We are rich in natural resources and display all children’s artwork and learning with pride and purpose. We want families to have that warm cosy feeling while spending time within our service.

I believe in working in partnership with families, I welcome their feedback, participation and the sharing of ideas. I believe this is essential for being able to evaluate a centre’s performance in regard to ensuring best practices and continual improvement. I believe that it is important to establish genuine and trusting relationships with all children, families and educators.

It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to lead an exceptional group of educators here at Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs, and have such an amazing community to surround ourselves with. My team and I look forward to meeting new families and children.

My qualifications & experience:

  • Diploma of Children’s Services
  • Advanced Diploma in community sector management
  • Over 10 years of experience in early education & childcare
