At Sparrow, we recognise the influence our environments have on a child’s learning experience. Rather than simply housing activities, our spaces invite wonder and creativity, with materials that spark curiosity and displays that celebrate learning.
Designed to Support, Inspire & Nurture
Our childcare centres are designed to feel like a home away from home, offering engaging indoor and outdoor spaces that are rich in natural materials and sensory experiences to inspire exploration.
Every indoor and outdoor space is intentionally arranged to stimulate curiosity and independence. Natural light, calming colours and a balance of open areas and cosy nooks invite exploration and a sense of security. Children are encouraged to move freely, choosing where and how they wish to engage.
Children learn best through authentic experiences. Real tools, glassware, wooden elements and natural resources help them connect play with the real world. From gardening equipment to real kitchen utensils, these materials foster concentration, patience, and respect for their surroundings.
Outdoor environments extend the learning studio. Gardens, sand and water play areas, climbing structures and natural landscapes give children space to test physical skills, take safe risks and build a relationship with nature. These areas change with the seasons and children’s evolving interests.
Our learning centres care for the planet by using recycled and natural materials and teaching children about conservation. Through gardening, veggie patches, fruit trees, composting and sustainable practices, children learn how their actions impact the world around them.
More Than a Classroom
We see our environments as a third teacher, recognising that spaces are as influential as educators and peers to a child’s learning experience. Every texture, colour, sound and layout communicates a message: that children are valued, capable and trusted. Our childcare spaces are intentionally designed to invite wonder and exploration while reflecting the values of the Sparrow community.
Educators observe how children interact with our spaces and adjust it to expand on their interests, ensuring the environment is always growing alongside the child. Passionate and experienced, our educators build meaningful connections with each child and support their growth while creating consistency and strong relationships with families with low-staff turnover.
Our studios are filled with resources, stones, shells, fabric, recycled materials, that can be moved, combined and transformed in countless ways. With no “right” way to use them, children develop problem-solving skills, creativity and independent thinking. Educators carefully present resources to be visually appealing and easy to access, encouraging self-selection and care for the materials.
